Beginnings

The daily life of a school teacher can, at times, become quite harried. The postings on this blog are intended to uplift, inspire and encourage teachers everywhere. They will have a Christian content, and have originated from a weekly series of messages sent to a group of teachers in and around a city in Northern Georgia. It is hoped that they bring hope to you, whether you are a teacher, student, or just happen to be passing by.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Phil. 4:8

There used to be a tapestry with these words hanging just inside the front door of the women's dormitory at the college where my wife and I first met. The women's dean had hung it there in the hopes that, through seeing and reading these words frequently, the residents might have a higher standard of character. The words encourage each of us to guard the avenues to our minds, for, as it also says in scripture, "By beholding, we become changed."

Think on and associate with that which is honest. Think fairly of others, and treat them justly. Do not fill your mind and time with that which glorifies injustice. Encourage purity and be pure. Look for the loveliness in others, for it is therein almost everyone if you search. Do not accept or spread that which is not of good report. Extol virtue, and seek to praise, not to be praised.

If we exhibit this type of behavior before our students, and treat them according to these words, think of the good that can be done!

Welcome aboard, Elaine. It's been a while since I heard from you. I hope there is as much blessing in these for those who read as there is for me as I write. It is a marvelous thing to consider how God works in and through our lives.
